Celebrating a Proud Past... a Promising Future

To create a promising future in a place which inspires people to achieve their best through nurturing partnerships and loyalties while enhancing the experience of a small historic southern town.

The BDDA is dedicated to the development, growth, and preservation of Bennettsvilles' historic downtown area.

Flag Request

We began the project with 158 flags proudly proclaiming our (your) patriotism and support of our nation and in particular our veterans and active service men and women. We have tried to maintain that number although there has been some vandalism and theft. It is only through your support we are able to continue this project at the level we would like.

When you donate $50 in memory of or in honor of someone, whether veteran or not, you help sustain this most worthwhile project. With your donation, an American flag is purchased and an engraved brick is installed at the Flag Monument located at the Bennettsville Visitor Center, 304 West Main Street. These are there to express our appreciation to the folks remembered or honored and to tell the world how we feel.

Thank you for your continued help. Send your donation to Executive Director, FLAGS, PO Box 1293, Bennettsville, SC 29512

Flag Committee

Bennettsville has always shown its patriotism and support for our armed services. Since its founding in 1819, our City has had some sort of display of the America flag. The flag flies on the Municipal Building, the Court House Square, the Bennettsville Visitor Center and other offices and businesses throughout our town.

Many of us can remember when local businesses in our downtown displayed their own flags on the sidewalks during special days, both patriotic and other holidays. This is no longer the case. In fact, on July 4th, Independence Day, 2003, there were no American flags on display in our downtown. On Independence Day, 2012, thanks to our Flag Committee efforts, there were 158 flags on display.

We need your help. All of us support our men and women in the service of their country. Patriotism here at home sends a message of total support for their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their families and their employers. Help us raise the necessary monies to continue this project well into the future. There are several ways you can participate:

Plaques with the names of donors will be on display in our Flag Monument on the grounds of the Bennettsville Visitor Center recognizing your contributions. All contributions are tax deductible. For further information, please call 843/479-3869.
